Karpacz (formerly Krummhübel) is a town in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in the Jelenia Góra County. It is located at an altitude ranging from 480 to 885 meters above sea level, at the foot of Śnieżka (1602 meters above sea level), in the valley of the Łomnica River and its tributary streams.
From 1945 to 1954, Karpacz was the seat of a rural commune. From 1975 to 1998, it was administratively part of the Jelenia Góra Voivodeship.
According to data from the Central Statistical Office as of December 31, 2008, the town had a population of 5,004.
The settlement of gold prospectors was established in the 12th century. The first records of Karpacz appeared in the „Walońska Books” at the end of the 14th century. It was granted city rights in 1960.
